They are the reason I love horror films and Vampires. Christopher Lee was awarded the Fellowship at the Baftas yesterday. I was six years old when I first saw him as Dracula in the Hammer productions along with Peter Cushing (Also pictured) Christopher lee was knighted in 2009 and has been in more films than I can remember. As Count Dracula he had few words but to be honest he didn't need them, the man stands 6 foot 4 and as the Prince of Darkness exuded presence, power and sex appeal. The first time I saw those eyes and the fangs sink into the victims neck (all be it behind his cape) my jaw dropped my eyes turned the size of saucers and I was hooked. As I got older I never gave up my passion for the undead or him and although I'm not a huge fan of James Bond I made a point of watching The man with the Golden Gun, just to see him. I was delighted when he was cast as Saruman in Lord of the Rings and loved every scene he was in although there wasn't enough. Christopher Lee is a powerful, talented actor that has the ability to portray any character he plays brilliantly. Watching him last night getting his award actually brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat (Not easy to do) He may be 88 years young but he still has presence.
I know he dislikes to talk about his 'Dracula days' but if I was face to face with him I would say thank you, if it was not for him my stories would never have been written and if the truth be told my stories are my escape from normality.
As you will have already noticed Peter Cushing is also in the picture as again he deserves credit as you cannot have Dracula without Van Helsing, put the two together and the you could almost believe they were battling to the death. Also pictured is Vincent Price, he had the ability to play serious or comedy from the Mask of the red death to A comedy of terrors, this man could scare the shit out of you or crack your ribs with laughter.
Well that's it, what else can I say except that the Vampires today my be sexy but it you want fear these men are the best and if it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't be writing.
Thank you for giving me my weird but unique imagination.
